TJ, aka The Barefoot Florist, studied architecture and interior design at Long Beach State in southern California. Garden design and horticulture were always a passion for her. That combination seemed a perfect segway into floristry and wedding design. After twenty years in California, as beautiful as it was, family, roots, and a love for the midwest seemed too strong a draw to ignore.
TJ and her family moved back to southern Illinois, and brought a little west coast sunshine with them! A Splendid Affair was initially located in Carbondale. When the opportunity arose to move the business to a gorgeous old 1885 foursquare in downtown Carterville, TJ's hometown, the decision was an easy one.
After a good deal of renovation and late nights, with unexpected surprises along the way, and lots of sweat equity, the historic home became a wonderfully cozy and comfortable meeting space for event clients and brides.Of course, vintage doesn't come without quirks!
