Off-the-chart spicy food (because I numbed my tastebuds with endless servings of my Navajo friends' green chili ). Over the years I've photographed countless vow renewals. 10 years, 15 years - even 20 years! While I love helping couples record these milestones, I so often hear a story that makes me just plain sad: "We don't have any photos from our wedding that we love."
The reasons vary: a) the photographer was just "Meh"; b) they saved on photography in favor of other priorities; c) when selecting a photographer, they didn't understand the difference between Standard Wedding Pictures and Storytelling Photography. It's so sad for me to hear this. A wedding is a monumental event - truly one of the most significant times in a couple's lives.
They deserved more than generic pictures which may have captured the scene but missed the story. They deserved photography that evokes the day's emotions, energy, and memories - even 20 years later. When I started out in this industry over a decade ago, I promised myself that if I ever felt like this was becoming a 'job', I would quit.
